Checklist! 8 Essential Household Medicines! Must-Haves for Your Home

Household Medicine Cabinet is a familiar fixture that I've seen since childhood, but nowadays, it’s becoming rare. Some people still keep a few essential medicines at home, but the variety has dwindled. This might be because convenience stores are now close by, so people think they can buy what they need when they need it. However, don’t forget that accidents often happen unexpectedly and without warning. I believe having basic medicines at home is still essential. "It's better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them." Today, we have a checklist of 8 essential household medicines that everyone should keep at home.

  • Pain relievers and fever reducers: These medicines are used to relieve pain and reduce fever. They are commonly used to treat general mild pain, such as headaches, muscle pain, or joint pain.
  •  Cough medicine and Phlegm dissolving: These are used to treat conditions where thick mucus becomes a problem for breathing, typically related to respiratory system issues. They come in both pill and liquid forms, though liquid is more commonly used for relief.
  • Antihistamines and cold medicine: These are used to relieve allergy symptoms, such as various types of allergies, dust allergies, nasal congestion, runny nose, or hives. They can also be used to relieve itching.
  • Antacids for indigestion and bloating: Indigestion and bloating often result from food that is not properly digested or from eating foods that produce excess gas in the stomach. This can also lead to acid reflux.
  • Topical creams for rash and inflammation: Skin irritation can occur in both hot and cold weather, often leading to itching or rashes. There are various forms of medication to treat rashes, including pills, creams, or lotions, which can be chosen based on the symptoms.
  • Eye drops for irritation relief: Nowadays, many people spend long hours in front of computer or phone screens, leading to eye strain, dryness, or irritation. Having eye drops at home is very important.
  • Wound cleansing solutions: This typically includes saline solution or alcohol, used to clean fresh wounds by washing away bacteria, contaminants, and other dirt from the wound, helping to promote healing and reduce the risk of infection.
  • Antiseptics for wound care: Antiseptics are used after cleaning the wound to kill bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

It's important to keep your medicine cabinet well-stocked and check if anyone in the household is allergic to any of these medicines to prevent dangerous side effects. Additionally, it’s essential to maintain your health, especially when the weather changes frequently. Drink plenty of clean water to avoid having to rely on your medicine cabinet too often.
